What to Expect During an On-Location Family Portrait Session

1. Pre-Session Consultation

Before the session, you’ll typically have a consultation with your photographer. This might occur via phone, video call, or email and will include discussions about your preferences, location choices, and any specific ideas you have in mind.

2. Choosing the Location

The location is key for your family portrait more often than not your own home is the best choice as it is unique to you. You avoid the hassle of travelling and offers more comfort. The photographer will offer recommendations that suit your style and vision to get the best out of your home location whether it be indoors or outside.

3. Outfit Coordination

Coordinating outfits is crucial. Your photographer may provide guidelines for colors and styles to ensure your family looks cohesive. Aim for classic styles and colors that complement one another without being overly matching.

4. Arriving on Location

On the day of the shoot, I will arrive a little early to help your family feel comfortable before session and also take a few moments to explore the area and get familiar with it, ensuring that we get the best out of your session time.

5. Getting Comfortable

As the session begins, the photographer will guide you through poses and prompts to help everyone feel relaxed. Don’t be surprised if they encourage candid interactions, as these often result in the most genuine smiles and expressions.

6. Timing and Lighting

Sessions typically last no longer than an hour and this includes setting up and break down time of any equipment used. A combination of studio lighting and natural light is used.

7. Capturing Different Shots

Your photographer will capture a variety of shots: group photos, individual portraits, and candid moments. Expect a mix of posed and lifestyle photography to showcase your family’s personality.

8. Keeping Kids Engaged

If you have young children, your photographer will likely employ techniques to keep them engaged and excited throughout the session, with fun poses to make the experience enjoyable for everyone.

9. Timeframe for Delivery

After a few weeks, your edited images will be delivered through an online gallery. A selection of colour and b&w images will be available for viewing. All images will be fully retouched with subtle skin smoothing techniques as required.

10. Package Options & Frames

Please refer to the supplied price list in terms of package options. We highly recommend that you consider this experience as an investment. Framed images are a great way to showcase your family portraits in your home. We also offer photographic prints which are carefully hand printed by us, ensuring image quality is of the highest standard.

10. Enjoying Your Portraits

Finally, enjoy showcasing your family portraits! Whether you choose to display them in your home or share them with friends and family, these images will serve as cherished memories for years to come.
